Why Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes is Very Important

Hello Beauties!
Let’s be honest… when it comes to cleaning our makeup brushes, we can be pretty lazy. Granted, it’s always on our to-do list, but always seems to find itself at the bottom of our priorities.
However, makeup artist Caroline Barnes, who has worked with the likes of Pixie Lott, states that “Layers of oil from your skin, mixed with makeup pigments and dead skin cells make brushes a breeding ground for bacteria”. Not so luxurious, right? Clean brushes will leave your skin feeling more radiant, and allow makeup to effortlessly glide onto your skin.
So, what’s the best way to clean our brushes?
- Dip each individual brush under hot running water, and then add into a brush cleaning balm or liquid. If you don’t have either of these, then a bowl of gentle shampoo or soap works perfectly. Rub the bristles gently with your fingers, to get the soap right into the brush.
- Hold the brushes under running water, checking there is no soap/balm left on it and ensure they are sparkling clean. You can also use a brush washing mat, where you scrub your brushes over the plastic teeth, a much quicker way to clean your brushes.
- If there is any excess residue on the brush, repeat step 2. Otherwise, squeeze out the water from the brush and lay it out on a towel to dry.
- After all of your brushes have gone through this process, lay them out in a line under the radiator to dry. If you lay them in a pile, or on top of each other, they won’t dry properly!
It may be one more chore added to your weekly Rota, but cleaning your makeup brushes will definitely improve your skin!
